Our client is a leader in North American Energy Infrastructure. Their diverse power portfolio includes natural gas, nuclear, coal, hydro and wind generation primarily located through out Canada and the United States. Our client has over 60 years of successful experience and they are continuing to grow.
Our client is seeking a Regulatory lawyer with US experience to add to their team of legal professionals.
The individual will be responsible for providing regulatory legal advice on U.S. matters to various business units and may act as counsel in regulatory proceeding requiring U.S. expertise. This is rare opportunity to work with a highly regarded legal team in a multi faceted organization.
Duties will include:
-provide support, guidance and legal opinions on various U.S. regulatory and administrative law issues affecting our client's interests.
-develop pleadings for filings with U.S. state and federal regulatory boards and other administrative tribunals and agencies, focused primarily on matters of economic regulation;
-represent our client's interests as counsel in regulatory and other administrative proceedings;
-negotiate various matters on our client's behalf;
-work in conjunction with and provide supervision and direction to external legal counsel;
-represent our client and its affiliates in various industry group initiatives;
-provide advice and guidance on Customs and Border Patrol matters relating to import and export of oil and gas;
-provide advice and assistance to internal client groups on various U.S. regulatory compliance matters; and
-provide legal and regulatory advice and support for business development initiatives.
Qualifications
-an understanding of the oil & gas industry and the electric power business and direct experience with economic regulation (tolls, tariff and service matters).
-direct experience in proceedings before U.S. state and federal energy regulatory boards and tribunals;
-strong knowledge of and familiarity with applicable U.S federal and state laws, regulations and practices;
-strong advocacy skills, both oral and written;
-an ability and willingness to travel within North America as required;
-non-legal energy industry experience would be an asset;
-strong organizational skills and an ability to support diverse client groups and handle multiple files;
-strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well both independently and in a team environment;
Education
-law degree from a Canadian law school or an ABA accredited law school;
-member of a U.S. state bar or a Canadian Provincial bar;
-minimum 6 years of total legal experience and a minimum of 4 years of direct regulatory law experience.
Candidates with different levels of experience may be considered.
